I am not sure what constitites "good military science fiction" but Harry 
Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat series comes to mind and so does Monstrous 
Regiment by Terry Pratchett. I am currently reading Grunts by Mary Gentle -- 
not sure what I think of it yet.
