I agree. And you've acknowledged something outside of Islam that is a
determining factor; therefore, we know Islam itself isn't the problem.

I view this conflict much like the struggle between "cowboys and
indians" when the Americas were being settled. It's a clash of
cultures and the indiginous population is fighting to preserve their
historic--and from this side of the divide, archaic--lifestyle from
the impending flood of a conquering culture.

The change is inevitable, and how we, as the cultural flood washing
over them, handle this is as important to the process of change as
their struggle against it. And they aren't the only ones who will be
changed by this.
