I don't know of any resources offhand, but here were the basics back 
when I sold it (circa 2001):

Not always on.
Satellite dish was the downlink, standard phone line/modem was the uplink.
Basically unroutable by hardware routers -- you had to use something 
like Internet Connection Sharing because of the modem connection.
Fast downstream, but high latency (500ms lag just from the satellite 
distance).

Basically only a good option if there's no other broadband to be had.
