Another advantage with renting the DVR provided by your cable company is
that if/when it breaks you just turn it in for a new one. If they come
out with a new and improved model you just turn in your old one for the
new one. If they come out with slick new Tivo software for their DVR (as
Comcast is supposed to do later this year) but it doesn't run on the one
you have you just turn it in for a new one . . . Consumer Reports
actually recommended renting from the cable company over buying because
of these issues . . . I'm on the fence between getting a DVR or getting
Netflix or getting both . . . I see this scenario where if I get both I
never go out of the house again except to check my mailbox for Netflix .
.. .
