I agree with all of that but the immediate need for amnesty/recognition. I look at it like this. Many of the large farms that employee illegal immigrants are doing so because it is cheaper than upgrading the equipment and machines they use. The technology exists to make farming all most carefree, almost no need for human interaction at all. It's something very similar to what we are seeing with the big auto companies. They can make all kinds of environmentally friendly cars, but it would cost millions to retool their factories, so they spit out the same old shit.
Just like unions were needed for a period during the industrial revolution, so too do we now need an organization that pushes for the implementation of new technologies that replace the humans we don't want or need here. -- Timothy Heald Analyst, Architect, Developer [EMAIL PROTECTED] W: 202-228-8372 C: 703-300-3911 -----Original Message----- From: Gruss Gott [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, April 11, 2006 9:21 AM To: CF-Community Subject: Re: Random Immigration Thought > Tim wrote: > I agree with you more than anyone else on this list, but I think this > is one place where you, and the libertarian party, are wrong. We need to change the laws, but the reason the laws aren't changed is because people are 2 faced about the issue: they say "keep them out" and "we want cheap goods and labor" in the same sentence. Lots of people would hire a nanny for $100 a week - but not for $1000/wk, a "livable wage". So here's where I piss everyone off: 1.) Change immigration law to accept as many as we can immediately employ, but exempt from US citizen labor laws, 2.) Eliminate the minimum wage (even if only for immigrants) and let the economy absorb as many people as it can provide jobs for. If you're jobless or a criminal, you get deported. If you're working and meet X criteria over 10 years, you can apply for citizenship. Let's make it a 20 year plan for those willing to work low pay low skill jobs. 3.) Build fences, seal the border, and keep criminals out and workers in. Give workers a legal, taxable path to citizenship. Bottom line: make law reflect reality and then enforce that law. It will provide us all with a better life, including the immigrants. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:203681 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
