I disagree.  I think the vast majority of American's don't want just anyone
coming into the country.  We do want immigration, limited immigration,
controlled immigration.

An error of analysis: not enough people care to change things either way.
To find out how people feel, we'll have to wait for elections. 
Of course then we'll know how the 40% that vote feel.

As to being punished for breaking the law, that's what judges and juries are
for.  If you break the law, a judge and jury can decide to let you walk or
something more punitive all the way to "the full extent" which is, of
course, a cliche.

As a citizen and potential jury member I agree that they broke the law, but
for those that want to work and become citizens, I dismiss all charges.  You
don't.  Hung jury.  The accused walks.
