How utterly obtuse.

Personally I'm not convinced that art should have government
funding... I'm not convinced it shouldn't either, just not convinced
it should. But if it gets government funding, then _any_ art should be
allowed to have government funding, even if it's a big statue of Bush
analy raping somebody's grandmother. Which would basically be my
argument against government funding of the arts -- not that people
would use that funding for offensive works (because I think offensive
work can be as valuable as inoffensive work), but because there's no
way to judge how any individual work benefits the public and I don't
see any really viable way to determine who would get the money,
outside of possibly "first come first served", which doesn't sit well
with me either.
