I've been off-list for a few weeks now moving into the new house. I'm all set up now (at least the computer is - I'm still far from unpacked) and am going to try to slip back into my routine. ;^)
I just ended up deleting all the messages from the HOF lists - there was just too much to handle. Let me know if there were any gems I should read through on the archives. As for the move, it's going relatively well. We had a rocky start since both kids ended up with high fevers on the drive down (turning a 5 hour drive from Boston to Scranton into a nearly eight hour drive). Then the first load of laundry we did backed up into the utility sink revealing a leaky drain which soaked the carpet in the utility room and got a few of my comic boxes as well. But the kids are fine now and the drain was cheaper than I might have thought ($80 for a plumber to replace the trap and drain pipes and a $140 for Roto-Rooter to grind through the clog). I got an estimate to replace the old basin with a double one and redo the washer drain (install a stand pipe and redo all of the water intakes) - only $400 for the works. This is a LOT cheaper than I've come to expect from Boston area prices. The furniture came yesterday but the local helpers balled so the Allied driver and I moved everything. I didn't really mind since it was the difference between sleeping in my own bed and waiting another day for my stuff. So far everything's fitting in nearly as we hoped. The new cable system (Adelphia, we came from Comcast) kinda sucks. The broadband service requires some lame set-up to happen on the computer connected to the modem - but since we have a router we have to call customer support. It's already "forgotten" twice so I expect quite a few support sessions. The TV picture absolutely SUCKED - until I realized that it only sucked when I routed it through my component auto-switcher. It's fine going directly to the TV but it means that I again have to futz with TV and receiver inputs and such where with Comcast everything looked great and the auto-switcher handled the hard stuff. Looks like I'll be investing in an intelligent remote sometime soon. We painted two rooms and got new carpet in my daughters - her room now has three lavender walls, one purple wall and purple carpet. Our bedroom no longer has carpet or orange walls - we've now got hardwood floors and mint green walls. We got the fridge and dishwasher installed and both are working out great. We're creating so much garbage it's disgusting - we're hoping they take it all so I can clear out my garage of it. I also just hunted and killed my first big bug... some kind of damn centipede that we're telling ourselves came in on the moving van. That's our story and we're sticking to it. (It's not that unlikely since I spent most of the day running wire through the rafters in the basement and attic and didn't see even one bug). In any case, if any cares, I'm back. ;^) Jim Davis ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:204674 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
