close down all your programs (like if word is running shut it down) then you
should be able to safely delete anything in your temp folder.  (ms apps like
word typically use the temp folder for things like autosave for data
recovery or just as scratch space.)  the real culprits are usually .chk
files which are generated by checkdisk and are usually found in your root.
you can feel safe deleting them 99% of the time; in fact really 100% of the
time, unless you're specifically trying to recover lost data.  sometimes
when your computer abends and reboots, you'll get a whopping .chk file
because it's "recovered" your windows swap file.  and those suckas can get
really really big.
