Among the four drive units that I researched the Buffalo was the cheapest at
around $600 with small drives (something like 250 Gig of storage). It's
updatable to 1.6 Gig at least.

Buffalo also makes single drive NAS enclosures for as little as $200 and
NetGear has a neat little two Drive box for a little over a $100 but I don't
think it's SATA.

Personally after researching things I went with the ReadyNAS box. It was a
little more expensive than the Buffalo box (a lot more expensive if you get
it preconfigured with drives) but offers a lot more options and operating
system-level expandability.

Also stay away from the Ximeta Boxes - they're on the pricier end and
require the installation of a connectivity applet to each box that you want
to access them. Big pain in the ass.

The better units require no special installations on consuming nodes.

Tigerdirect.com has a great selection of these boxes. They don't always
have the best prices tho' - but the site can give you a lot of options to
check out.
