[It appears that congress is currently pushing a law that will abandon
net neutrality in favor of allowing big companies like AT&T, Verizon,
and Comcast to decide what web sites will work best for you, based on
who pays them the most. This is a serious issue for anyone who
believes in free speech or the internet and a free and open system.
Imagine not being able to read Evil Avatar or check out Penny Arcade
simply because they couldn't afford to pay the big companies big
dollars. Imagine the effect this will have on independant gaming.

Quote:
The updated bill, dubbed "Communications Opportunity, Promotion and
Enhancements Act of 2006" is sponsored by Representative and House
Commerce Chairman Joe Barton (R-Texas), Representative and Chairman of
Telecommunications and Internet Subcommittee Fred Upton (R-Mich.),
Representative Charles Pickering (R-Miss.), and Representative Bobby
Rush (D-Ill.). The bill is focused on video-franchise reform and was
first introduced to Congress in late March 2006.

It would, among other things, grant telcos and cable operators
automatically renewing national franchises to deliver video services
over the Internet, and would grant the FCC authority over Net
neutrality-related issues. The CEA and US Telecom are among a number
of groups showing public support for the bill.]

I don't want to add the usual stuff that gets labelled as 'Anti-US'
propganda, so I'm waiting for you folks to avidly defend this latest
move on the agenda by the United States.
