For some strange reason you think that "government" is some benevolent force of nature. How is it that you don't understand that it's made up of people who, like all other people, will screw over their friends, neighbors, and family given the chance? You can't get around it: there's people in the world and no matter what system they're in, they'll be greedy. The ONLY way to prevent that is to give everyone a fair chance at the golden ring. If gov't holds the ring, then only the people in gov't get to wear it. Remember the USSR? That's been tried. And, BTW, you hit the nail on the head - gov't re-distributes wealth, it doesn't create it. Without capitalism the country will eventually go broke. (again, remember the USSR?) So, I don't know what all of those literate people are reading, but it sure as hell isn't history or economics.
