The net cost also includes the cost of the car itself, which for
hybrids is always several thousand more than a non-hybrid for the same
model vehicle.  Since they essentially have two engines in them they
are always going to me more (in their current configuration).

For the cost over the life of the car to be equivilant for - say - a
Civic Hybrid vs non-Hybrid, gas prices would have to be substantially
higher.

I'd still buy one for the warm fuzzies, but you are kidding yourself
if you think you are actually saving any money buying a Hybrid.
