There's a fault with this argument though. If you were considering a non-hybrid prius against a hybrid prius, the argument may be valid. But if you buy a prius to have a prius, you're not paying anything above the "normal' cost.
If we're going to use that argument, we all need to driving old geo metros since they're cheap and get decent mileage. Or buy nice bikes and cycle back and forth to work. Also, what happens 3 years down the line and say gas goes up to $6 a gallon. How much will your gas only vehicle retain in value vs a hybrid?
