interesting.

We got passion and warmth and humor. Very grandmotherly. I'd say the
most provacative thing she said all night was that one must have
Courage to live a life well and worthwhile; and that people are not
born with courage, they must develop it over time and with
tribulation.

The format was much the same last night as with your experience; but
while she spoke and read poetry and then spoke about the meanings of
the poems, she didn't rail on crime or poverty and she certainly
didn't attempt to point fingers. In fact, she suggested that perhaps
to better understand the differences and similarities in culture we
should commit first to reject racial epithets of any kind, including
those we direct at ourselves (black people using the "n-word" and
etc.) in an attempt to "take them back" or own them. "Poison,
P-O-I-S-O-N" she said, "in a vial marked with skull and crossed bones,
will still be poison if served from bavarian crystal."

The context was to be an examination her unique life, but ended up
being a very well done examination of _everyone's_ unique life, and
how in our lives it is important to have as well as be "rainbows in
the clouds."

and that would just be unacceptable."
