Notice the use of if, so it's up to you to decide if it really is a personal attack ---- NO! The choice of language is what makes it a personal attack. You have used a classic tactic to avoid arguing the points and instead argue the person, since once you have made the personal attack you have not need to actually argue any of these points, but whether or not you attacked the person or have been attacked yourself. I'm not going to bother to look back and see your exact wording. But it was worded in an aggressive manner. One could have easily worded the point differently and it would not have been an attack. Of course one could have worded it even more aggressive if that matters. So good job Sam, I have frequently wondered if your skill at deflecting debates in this way is conscious or unconscious. The most important idea I learned in my speech and debate class was that it is the responsibility of the speaker to clearly articulate ones message, not the listener.
