Why people are poor in America in 2006:

(1.) Ignorance. Don't know how to get jobs, build careers,
strategize, research, study, etc. I fell into this category. Usually
this is anyone from a small town or who's parents didn't explain
career things to them (because you certainly can't count on k-12 to
tell you).

(2.) Choice, A & B & C.

(2a.) People that work/worked in a dying field for 2 or 3 decades and
are now being let go. This is a choice, just like putting all your
retirement money into Enron.

(2b) People that decide, for example, that they don't want to move out
of an area that has few jobs. I also fell into this category because
of #1 and because I wanted to live in the woods. So I did temporary
work at $6/hr or less. Or they're lazy and just don't want to work.

(2c) They've fecked themselves up. They've made bad choices by having
kids too young or abusing drugs and alcohol.

(3.) They're incapable of normal work. They're mentally or physically
handicapped.

Solutions:
--------------
1 and 2 are easily solved with education. So when I say we have to
align our education system to new realities, that's what I'm talking
about. #3 I have no problem solving with tax dollars.

So tell me what I've missed.
