For some issues maybe; like gay marriage. However most churches don't really
get into that.

The Democrats have a problem with compromise within the party. The
Republicans will get together and find a candidate they think can win and
will promote as much of the party agenda as possible.

The Democrats however have a hard time with that. The groups you listed have
a hard time working together. The Labor people and the environmentalists
often butt heads on things. The youth that consider themselves democrats
usually haven't figured out what they really believe.

The Republicans have always seen voting as a civic responsibility. Whereas
the Democrats see it more as a right, something they are able to do, but
don't have to.

This is something that has plagued the democrats for years. If the party
could better organize, throw out the fringe and come up with talking points
that last more than a couple of years they could probably do something.
