Vietnam is a much different country than Iraq. Iraq is more like the Balkans
with its religious and ethnic divisions. The big failure in the Balkans was
that no one intervened until several years into the war.

At this point there is no war of occupation in Iraq. There is a popularly
elected Iraqi government, and if they ask us to leave tomorrow, I have no
doubt that we will pack up and go. The war is now a war of liberation from
Sunni (and  to a lesser extent) Al Qaeda tyranny.
