I had the bicuspid right in front of the molar canaled on Tuesday so
the area was inflamed... also the fact that it was rather infected
(the dentist said something about being able to smell the infection)
might have played into the equation.

My guess is that the pain itself is in the gums and surrounding area,
not the canal itself.  It was quite the ordeal though.  For those who
don't know, a molar has three different roots, each of which have to
be canaled individually.
