Dana, spend the $20 bucks for the buds, you won't disappointed.  Less of 
an ear-bud and more of a true headphone without the extra plastic. They 
actually create a nice "seal" around your ear canal and cancel out 
almost all noise, while making sure all the sound doesn't bleed out of 
the edges.  They also create a cool little bass tube using your ear, 
too, which makes the sound not so "tinny".
