Gel,

Can you back that up with reputable sources?

I have seen many things (written and live) by the Lebanese government,
but I have seen no concrete proof that they have asked for help
disarming Hezbollah. I would love to learn otherwise.

They have made many impassioned pleas to stop the bombing, many
requests for a cease fire, and many requests for a cessation of
hostilities.

They have not officialy stated the disarming of Hezbollah is something
they want done, let alone something they want help with. They have not
officially condemned Helzbollah for any action (including the
cross-border raid that started all of this) other than to state "I of
course wish they had not done that".

>From Wikipedia:
Siniora was quoted on July 20, 2006 in the Milan-based daily Corriere
della Sera calling for the disarmament of Hezbollah. "It's not a
mystery that Hezbollah answers to the political agendas of Tehran and
Damascus," Siniora said to the Corriere. "The entire world must help
us disarm Hezbollah. But first we need to reach a cease-fire." Siniora
later denied the interview, but Corriere della Sera stands by its
report. "The interview was recorded," a senior staff member said.

"The important thing now is to restore full Lebanese sovereignty in
the south, dismantling any armed militia parallel to the national
army," Siniora said furthermore. "The Syrians are inside our home and
we are still too weak to defend ourselves. The terrible memories of
the civil war are still too alive and no one is ready to take up
arms." [1]

However, following the Israeli bombing of Qana on July 30, Siniora
expressed a more conciliatory position towards the organization. He
stated: "We are in a strong position and I thank the Sayyed
[Nasrallah] for his efforts", he stated [2]

Also, as to the fact that the Lebanese government has been at least
complicate in this affair, Energy Minister Mohammed Fneish (one of two
Hezbollah members who are in the Lebanese parliament) said the
Lebanese government had been aware for months that Hezbollah would try
to capture Israeli soldiers who could be used as leverage to free
Lebanese prisoners held by Israel. However, he said, Hezbollah didn't
give the Lebanese government notice that it was making the July 12
raid.
