Finally getting a laptop, and need some recommendations.

1) I am planning on getting a Dell (I've always had good things to say
about my desktops, work and home), anyone know of any great deals out
there? I know that's kinda open ended, but I'm looking to spend a grand
or so. I'd like 1GB RAM, at least a 60GB HD, and at least a 15" screen.
  After that, I'm pretty flexible.

2) Gonna need to adapt my home network to add a wireless router. Any
reason I shouldn't just purchase the cheapest one, or is there a
distinct advantage to going with LinkSys or NetGear or some other
name-brand?

Any other "need to haves" for someone who has never had a notebook before?

Thanks for the help!
