A friend of mine has been telling me how much trouble she is having getting on the web and/or getting email.... I finally rolled my eyes and went over to her house and began to see her point as I tried to sign her up for gmail and did not get past the authentication page, then hotmail only to find after filling out a long signup page that the submit button did not display. This was IE on... probably OS 8 by the look of it, though I could not remember where to look to find out. Yahoo at least displayed a little notice suggesting she download mozilla or safari. I reassured her that these are both reputable software, but did not start the download at the time as she is on dialup and slow dialup at that. I just left her instructions on how to do it and suggested she start it before going to bed one night.
I know she won't though, so I was going to do it for her, assuming her Mac has a USB port (anyone know?)... but the immediate problem I am having is that Mozilla does not appear to have a Mac download for earlier than OS X, which, yes, is very different than 8. I am looking at the Safari page, but I am also remembering something from the days when I had a Mac... something baout the data fork being different. So my question is that if I download to my thumb drive, which is FAT32, will it even do her any good? And before someone suggests a hardware upgrade -- not going to happen. I actually do have an interest in solving this as this woman frequently takes my daughter to the homeschool coop and event updates go out by email, so solving this would get me out of a lot of making sure she has heard about x y and z...
