It's not a matter of money -- her husband commutes to Los Alamos by plane. I think it's a matter of the husband. As it happened she came to my house last night, I didn't go to hers, and all she knows is that it's a Mac classic. A hardware upgrade is not in the picture. I'm still trying to get OS details.
