I will second the input switch. Mine is only 4 ports though, so it just handles my main peripherals: playstation, DVD, etc.
As for the TV connection, you'll run a coax from the DirectTV receiver to your TV, plus a component cable from your DirectTV receiver to your TV. You'll then pick up your component signal on one of your TV input channels. The coax isn't necessary if you want to watch all your TV via the component cable...but in my case, for some reason, we get a better non-HD signal on all our channels through the coax.
