As has been demonstrated in the past (Lincoln and FDR), in the short term
the President can acquire tremendous power with a compliant Congress. In the
longer term, elections, Presidential terms limits, the existence of the
Judiciary Branch, and the rigors of our Constitution make it very difficult
to enact permanent changes in the structure of our government.
