Actually, they don't even pay attention to resigning your commission anymore.  
Many former officers who did resign after being released full term have been 
re-summoned.  When their attorneys tried to argue that they were no longer 
commissioned officers according to the armed forces' own rules, JAG threw hissy 
fits and told them to report anyway with Leavenworth waiting for them if they 
didn't.  60 Minutes did something on it a while ago, IIRC.
