As to whether Fitzgerald knew, here is a quote from the article:

"Armitage himself was aggressively investigated by special counsel Patrick
Fitzgerald, but was never charged. Fitzgerald found no evidence that
Armitage knew of Plame's covert CIA status when he talked to Novak and
Woodward."

He knew but never charged Armitage. So why the case against Libby? It looks
increasingly like a witchunt. I hope they kill this notion of special
prosecutor cases- they always turn into witchunts.
