Charlie, We've bought all three of our cars from CarMax over the past four years, and we couldn't be happier. We just bought another one two weeks ago from them (David's new PT Cruiser).
You get 30 days warranty, no haggling on price, non-commissioned salespeople, instant financing, and a reasonable service plan. The thirty-day warranty is a real ass-saver, too. There was a hairline crack in a front ball joint (under a rubber boot, so it couldn't be seen) of David's PT Cruiser Thursday night, and it broke while he was pulling out of a friend's driveway. The wheel came off and it damaged the axle. This was a real and understandable fluke because of the way the crack was hidden under the protective boot. They covered it immediately, gave Dave a loaner car, and paid for the towing. Also, we *always* buy the longest service plan they offer and roll it into the financing, and it's saved us a lot of money over the years. Great peace of mind, too. They used to call it an "extended warranty," but it's nothing like those ridiculous scams of the same name they pull on you at Best Buy and Circuit City and the like, so they changed the name to "service plan." Well worth it. CarMax is the only place I'll probably ever buy a car.
