The Iraqi public may think that having coalition forces in the country
creates more violence, but the Iraqi leadership knows that if the coalition
leaves the country will become a total bloodbath. That's why they want us to
stay, and it is why we are obligated to stay, at least for the short term.

It is good to see that the Iraqi Army is gaining the confidence of the Iraqi
public, and I think we probably will be able to start drawing down our troop
levels next year, but I don't see us leaving completely.
