ok so this may not be the popular opinion here on the list...but i
think it's silly on both sides.

whoever wants to complain has the right to complain, i suppose. the
issue became "silly" when Russ responded in a less-than-professional
manner. he's running an convention and in that capacity should have
been much more professional in his response.

he could have chosen to either not respond at all, or respond with
something along the lines of:

"I'm sorry you've taken offense at some of the offerings that have
been advertised in relation to the upcoming CFDevCon conference. My
intention was certainly not to offend anybody's sensibilities. Please
recognize that the specific issue with which you took offense deals
with an afterparty and is not part of the event itself, nor is
attendance mandatory.

I hope that the conference itself offers content that you (as well as
other attendees) find relevant and challenging, and that everyone
walks away having learned quite a bit and feel that it was a
worthwhile event.

I appreciate your feedback, and I hope this clears things up. Hope to
see you at the conference".

Something like that. IMO would have been a much better (more
professional) response then what was essentially, "what? you don't
like chicks? fag!" :)

Personal feelings aside...if you're representing a product (Russ is
certainly representing the convention), it's pretty important to be
able to differentiate and put on a "professional" face in the
appropriate situations.

I'm certain that the whole situation would have very likely been
diffused very quickly had the response from Russ been more
professional.

</ IMO>
