Been to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Jamaica is a third world country, you'll
realize this as soon as you land. You'll also see it up close while your
cab takes you to an excursion point. The poverty is truly sad.

Stay in the tourist areas, if you're in an "all inclusive" you may not
have to leave the compound, except for excursions recommended by the
hotel. We wound up in one of the local "craft markets" in Montego Bay I
thought I was gonna have to fight my way out.

The general answer to anything that a local might ask you is "No, Thank
You" The questions will be "do you need a guide", "do you want to buy
(jewlery, crafts, drugs, etc.)", do you need a cab, do you want to go
shopping etc. The local folks, generally are nice friendly people trying
to go about their daily lives, unfortunatly the grifters, con men and drug
dealers are very bold, they give the island a bad rap. MoBay seems to be
the worst about this.

If you want souveniers, you can either buy them at the resort, or on a
shopping excursion

despite what you may hear to the contrary, marijuana is illegal in Jamaica

If you want to go out on your own, go with a group. It's pretty easy to
make friends in the resort.

Let the hotel arrainge for any excursions, cab rides etc, They know the
ones that aren't a rip off or worse.

Make sure that you see Dunns River Falls and climb it. We did a
snorkel/climb/party boat and it was awsome

See the "Luminous Lagoon"

Snorkel any and every chance you get, the wildlife is very upclose and
personal, some of the smaller fish are tame enough to nibble on you for
food

The beaches are hypnotic and very romantic, it's easy to get caught up in
it, we were able to find our little spots for "us time"

If you can find cold Red Stripe in bottles, indulge, it's a treat.

Finally have a great time and forget about whatever things may be going on
at home
