I agree, but I'm going to submit something controversial: there is no altruism.

While it's true that, for example, Mother Theresa got her reward by
helping others - which is much better than by hurting others obviously
- it's still a reward.  That is, it could be argued that somebody's
actions are simply a question of where they get their reward.

So the REAL moral high ground question is what determines where an
individual receives their rewards from?  Nature, nurture, or both?

That is, should, say, police be rewarded for their selflessness or is
it just that they're no different than anyone else: chasing their own
personal reward?

Just a thought ...
