Now this is getting ridiculous.

I decided to bite the bullet and pay for the repair and drop another $60 for
the two-year warranty.

Another 30 minutes with "Max" (the automated help system) and another 20
minutes spelling "Jim" to some cheap foreign labor and we get down to the
nitty gritty.

+) I can get it fixed for $140.

+) MS will NOT sell an extended warranty for a repaired/replacement product.
These come with the standard, completely sub-par, 90-day warranty and that's
the only option.

+) MS does NOT provide a shipping box (that's only for warrantee customers)
and I HAVE to send it via UPS. So add in the cost of shipping to the deal.

+) MS does not tell you what was wrong with the system - regardless of the
problem (your fault, their fault, addressable, whatever) you pay and that's
that. They may choose to replace your unit with a refurbished one at their
discretion regardless of the problem.

So my choices become:

+) Spend $140 + shipping to get a likely refurb unit with only a 90 day
warranty. Since my current unit only lasted six months I'm definitely not
confident in a previously broken replacement.

+) Spend $300 + extended store warranty to get a new system with a
reasonable warranty. This just pisses me off because I've already spent
$400 on this thing - which will essentially be thrown away.

+) Sell what I can (games, controllers, etc) for as much as I can, swallow
the cost of the unit and all my Live! purchases (around $200 or so in total)
and just become an XBox hating curmudgeon.

Right now, with all the Christmas spending on our minds (including,
frustratingly, several 360 games we didn't even get the chance to try) that
last option seems to be the way to go.
