Personally I prefer the less volatile "you can't prove a negative" argument. You just can't. Forget God, heaven, hell and all that: you just can't prove that something, anything "doesn't exist". A good discussion here: http://www.skepticwiki.org/wiki/index.php/%22You_Can't_Prove_a_Negative%22 What I'd REALLY like to stop hearing is that completely dumb-ass "how can you look at X and not believe in God" where "X" is something supposedly so perfect or beautiful that I must instantly take up the mantel of the Lord and pray. It's a positive take on the utterly insulting "there are no atheists in foxholes" argument but just as insulting. Like a flower in bloom, or sunset or (my favorite) a baby. Yeah, babies are great. The design of babies shows some great intelligence... You have a creature whose birth often places its sole natural source of food in mortal danger. If everybody does survive you've got at least several years where the baby is utterly incapable of defending itself, getting its own food or keeping itself alive. Then, the most intelligent "design parameter" of all, you've got a creature that can learn the nuance of SPOKEN LANGUAGE but can't, sometimes for several more years, learn not to SHIT ON ITSELF. Yeah, babies, make a believer out of me. Sorry... I think I went off on a rant there.
