Virginia has an uncontested divorce.. both parties draft an agreement that
divies up the property, support paymets etc.
it get's written in legaleze and notarized. You stand before a judge and
if everybody agrees to it it's done.
bad thing about Va is the mandatory waiting period, one year with kids and
six months without.
my divorce cost me $2500... we split the lawyer and I gave her $1500 to
invest to cover the insurance that she paid for.

That's good. If and when you do have to do that, see if you can
convince her to skip the lawyers and just buy and sign the forms.
It's easy to do if you agree on who's going to get what: you just
write in on the form, get it notarized, mail it in, and you're done.
For now, just to protect yourself and your kids, I'd at least get
something in writing with signatures that says what the new
arrangement is and why. If it's not too hurtful, have it notarized.
