digital audio travels over either digital optical or digital coax cables. and yeah, i don't necessarily get the naming convention on the "optical" either (except that it -is- actually light...if you plug one end into the source, the other end lights up red.)
'p' stands for 'progressive' (as opposed to 'i' which stands for 'interlaced'). 'p' is better, since with 'i', you're really only seeing half the picture at any given point in time. my setup does 720p and 1080i, and i've actually got it set at 720p, preferring the 'p'.
