Not knowing what connections you have, I have set mine up as follows...

I have a receiver, with DVD, VCR, PSX2 (in VCR2 connection) and TV all
connected to it. The TV has two sets of AV connectors. AV1 has in and
out. I connect the out cables here to the TV connectors on the
Receiver. I then take the Monitor connector on the receiver to AV2 In
on the TV.

This means that I can a) switch TV on without anything else and watch,
or b) watch anything (inc PS2) using the receiver, and the surround
sound hooked up to that. I rarely do a). I tend to just switch on the
receiver and use that for all sound.

We've also got a spare set of PS2 leads in the bedroom so we can hook
the Video connector of the PS2 to a small portable, and the Audio to
our stereo and watch DVD's in bed!! :^)

Don't know if this helps any... hope it gives you an idea or two, but
depends on the connections on your receiver/tv.
