My theory has been that that's what the Hezbollah/Israeli confrontation was all about. It was orchestrated by Iran to send a message to the US and its allies (esp Israel and the UK) to say: Check it out - we can do this anywhere, anytime, and in multiple places at once. We can bury you with mini-skirmishes that will be PR disasters no matter how you try to deal with them. You are over-allocated already: push us and you'll get buried. Should we push Iran, they will win in my opinion. They'll take control of our energy supply and we won't be able to do anything to recover except nuke the entire are and just about every Muslim.
