But its not necessarily all urban combat. The Israeli army was prepared for that because of their experience in the Gaza and West Bank. What they were not prepared for was their tanks getting hit by missiles from over 3km's away,and their supporting infantry unable to reply. When you're going up against steel reinforced bunkers, you want something more than rifles that shoot 5.56mm bullets. Even older Carl Gustav recoilless anti-tank cannons or small shoulder launched rockets would have been useful in that situation.
