I guess I'm not so confident that the Dems (at least some of them) won't break away in favor of a moderate republican candidate. There's a lot of denied racism and sexism in America. There will also be inevitable "concern" (read "underhanded spin") about a woman as commander-in-chief during wartime. Add to that the baggage that comes with being Bill Clinton's wife (many people have yet to forgive him his perceived sins). There are plenty of legitimate concerns which can be used to deny such motivations (even to oneself). Both are (very) junior senators, neither has any real foreign policy experience and both are liberally minded on hot-button conservative issues. Forgetting all of that there's also the simple fact that the dems - despite seemingly decades of trying - have yet been able to mobilize traditional non-voters. The republicans on the other hand have done very well with this (mostly by scaring the living crap out of them). I absolutely hope you're right, but I fear the American people may not live up to our hopes.
