Dictionary definition:
An economic system in which the means of production and distribution
are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to
the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.

The problem is that anything ending in the letters ism has a wide
range of interpretation.

Economically, the primary difference between capitalism and socialism
are in who owns, funds and steers industry and services (private
enterprise versus state or community). Socially the difference lies
in where the requirements for social programs are based (individual
desire and moral versus state mandate).

There are mean capitalists and there are mean socialists... to say all
capitalists are egotistical fiscal bullies who don't care a wit about
their fellow man is a gross generalization. To say all socialists are
peacenick hippie robin-hood wannabees is also a gross generalization.

Finding a workable solution depends on the general psyche of the group.
