I don't think this sentiment reflects the current views-- Just about every mag I've been getting has had a steady stream of articles about open source. I guess it depends on what you think an average small bus. is. =] .... > They want to buy a product, install it, and get support from the company > they buy it from. > > The LMS is a great example, the license for blackboard isn't that much, > it is the support agreement and things involved in that that you pay > for, the escalation and the ability to talk to a software developer, and > in our case influence change on the way the product is designed. I see a hint of what seems to be a reoccurring theme-- you buy this package, hoping it will do what you need, and if not, thinking "well, at least it will get us into a "standard"-- that can't be bad" and then you end up doing double work because you /don't quite fit into the box/. So, I guess if you've spent a bunch of money, you can influence the product you buy to some degree-- but in my experience it is realie slow when happening that way. Or, you can pay what probably ends up being less the end for someone to do it "in house". Open source give you options. I bet some kid would be stoked to get like 30 g's a year for doing nothing more than keeping Moodle customizations "in sync"-- bah, I shouldn't be sharing my seecrit money making skillz! =] End the end, it's all relative, I guess. I like the idea of that kid spending his loot on pizza and beer in local establishments, tho. ;] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Upgrade to Adobe ColdFusion MX7 Experience Flex 2 & MX7 integration & create powerful cross-platform RIAs http:http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;56760587;14748456;a?http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/flex2/?sdid=LVNU Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:227714 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
