In this sting anyway, the police action didn't kick in until the perv arranged a meeting. They weren't hunting down IP's. sure if it protects one kid that is great! > but if it interferes with my own lively hood as a developer, then it > is just bs... It doesn't. also i wonder, how many kids are just out on chat rooms trying to > explore some shit. > not saying it is ok to have s0x with a 15 year old boy or girl, but wtf... Tons of them. The law says a person under 16 cannot legally consent to sex...these kids are doing that every day. me and my wife watched it the other night in a flu induced haze. > she turned to me and asked if i could ever do that. > i almost left the house. no i could never do that.. been on irc for > 10+ years.. all game related. told her i know more about the guys i > game with then most co workers. if some new guy/kid joins the room & > starts spouting crap we kick/ban than in 2 seconds. Yeah, what's up with that? My wife asked me the same thing. I was an op for years on IRC, and we scolded these kids something fierce when we saw them. I was the long winded lecturer that they hated running into :) i believe in protecting youth and innocence. > but i don't believe it is right to bait & switch either. > isn't there a law against that? sting.. how about smacking the shit > out the parents who don't monitor there dumb ass kids in the first > place.. A judge in (where else) Kansas threw out some of these cases a year or so ago, but they've been appealed to a higher court and it's predicted that these cases will hold up in the end. I have NO problem with these kinds of stings. How is it any different than an undercover cop buying drugs? Or soliciting a hit? Or setting up a bait car to catch auto thieves? You have a high crime area, so you run a targeted operation to catch as many criminals as possible, while planting the seed of doubt in other would be criminals. I think it's exactly what the cops should be doing. The ultimate solution, of course, is educating the kids though.....but that's the parents job. Not the cops, not the school's...parents. -- She's a PhD in "I told you so" You've a knighthood in "I'm not listening" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Upgrade to Adobe ColdFusion MX7 Experience Flex 2 & MX7 integration & create powerful cross-platform RIAs http:http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;56760587;14748456;a?http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/flex2/?sdid=LVNU Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:228103 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
