Hard to say Ian. I think it's obvious that with the boom of the interwebs and chat rooms and IRC and all that, the availability of contact between predator and prey was greatly enhanced. I think for years these pedophiles were able to prey on children almost without fear. Law enforcement is finally starting to make some in roads, and shows like Dateline (which is done solely for the ratings, i have no delusions about any altruism on the part of NBC) are going a long way towards making it public knowledge that propositioning a minor online is now a risky venture.
I'm sure pedophiles still greatly outnumber cops, and more perverts get away with it than are caught....but at least the gap is closing.
