What about the Netgear solution?  The SC101

They've got a nice two disk NAS that uses standard ATA6 drives (or better)
and will do RAID mirroring... apparently there's a new one coming out that
will do it with SATA drives and has gigabit ethernet - and the big SATA
drives are a little cheaper than the big EIDE drives...

The amount of storage isn't as high, since you can only do two disks at
whatever the current SATA limitation is.... you could get a pair of 750 gig
SATA drives, but that puts it a bit beyond your price expectations =)  The
500 gig SATA drives would work though, if you were happy with 500 gig of
network attached storage.
