So help me understand your point.  You're saying that:

1.) In 1980 a "decisive" referendum occurred and the Canadian union
was preserved by a 59.56 per cent to 40.44 per cent margin.

2.) Despite #1, a short 15 years later, in 1995 there was another
political movement to have portions of Canada secede from the rest of
the country which failed by an even smaller margin, 50.58% No to
49.42% Yes.

And your point is that this is solid proof of the success of
multicultural governments?  That's seems like a reach because, based
on the data, one would not be nuts to suggest that in 2010 there'll be
another vote and it'll split the country.

As for the violence I would add that I saw no fewer than 50 bar brawls
over this issue here in MN from traveling Canadians - in fact many
bars would ban them.  I can't imagine it was more peaceful in-country.
