I'm like you Will...i like getting a refund. Takes discipline to operate at a deficit, collect whatever interest you can, and then pay what you owe Uncle Sam at the end of every year. I can't do it.
That's why the gub'mint doesn't like too many deductions....that's interest money that they want. Which, incidentally, they use as an excuse to charge me an additional penalty for owing so much at the end of the year.
