Here's the problem with that: how'd they know the VP would be there at
10:30am?  And how does the writer know that it was an attempt on the
VP's life?

If we assume the writer is correct, however (and he's clearly
speculating), it means that:

1.) The Taliban is alive, well, and watching the news 24/7 for targets
of opportunity.
2.) They're able to deduce a target's location and strike in under 24 hours, and
3.) They have little or no fear of the local population.

Speaking of which, where is the local outrage?  It may be there and I
haven't read about it, but if the Taliban are hated wouldn't there be
outrage and demonstrations?

So, even assuming the guy is right, it still adds up to
shouldn't-we-be-farther-than-this?
